I have a marble fireplace, and was wondering how to clean it without marking it. Shall I just dust it, or can I use any sprays or wipes..?
You could use HG Marble Wash & Shine which you can get either online
( http://www.homecareessentials.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_Cleaning__Protecting_and_Restoring_The_Shine.html )
or in your local tile shop.
If you cannot get hold of the HG product then LTP do similar products, details here..

YES! marble is a calcium carbonate…. that means it reacts to acid!! do not use any vinegar or citrus on it or you will etch into it!!
chances are it has been protected by some varnish, as I doubt marble is naturally shiny. though, I am not certain so best avoid anything acidic… this includes soft drink
best bet is just to dust it, or use plain water with or without detergent. there may be a special marble polish… or check the bottles to see if they mention marble.

Restoration Hardware sells a great marble paste. It cleans great and makes the marble really shine. It’s also great on other surfaces like glossy paint.

A dry steam clean can be done professionaly or clean with hot soapy water then wipe dry and use a little vegetable oil to buff and shine.

The best way to clean marble – whether it be a fireplace ot kitchen wokkrtop is to clean it with soapy water and a soft clean cloth.
As it is a hard stone this will have no effect on the surface finish, mine is still sparkling 10 years after installation

Do not use any kind of cleaning sprays as if you look at the tiny writing on the back of the labels you’ll find some kind of warning not to use on marble, aluminium etc, For everyday cleaning a damp cloth with a tiny squirt of dish washing liquid does no harm but for a really good clean use linseed oil for marble, we’ve got a few marble furnishings in our house.
